Volunteering as a great way of getting involved in the local community, of meeting new people and gaining valuable experience and skills. It can also be a powerful force for change.
|
|
|
Volunteering can potentially give everyone in society the opportunity to give, to feel valued, and to take part. The Volunteer Centre's aim is to turn this potential into a reality.
See below for a small selection of the latest volunteer opportunities.

VCAS are now offering a new service. We will advertise your skills / knowledge and services for free here on our vacancies and opportunities page.
If your job is insecure or you have recently been made redundant in the sector, why not advertise the type of work you can do and your skills and experience with us? Other voluntary groups may require someone to complete a small task or do a few hours a week.

Mark Burns - Communication / Campaigning
I have a background in communication in both the NHS and the voluntary sector. I can support community groups and voluntary organisations with issues such as:
• Communication
• Campaigning
• Consultancy
• Health promotion
As well as standard techniques I have also developed my own approach. This is to engage ‘hard to reach’ groups by using their own interests. I first look at how to use social market research to find out what these might be. I then go on to explore how to use a variety of approaches in more detail. These include
• Comedy
• Pop music, including musicals
• Fashion, including ‘Ann Summers’ type parties
• Magazines and comics
• Romantic novels
• Computer games
• Football
The approach can be used with issues other than health of course, e.g. environmentalism. I have a website at www.sexanddrugsandrockandhealth.com (or www.andhealth.org ) that expands on all these issues.
