About this deal

Eventually, Jurgen faces an unenviable dilemma “I’m trapped on this path where my work is building to something heinous.

Lizzie’s mentally unstable brother adds even more tension to the situation since he believes Jurgen is out to get him.Kelly Rimmer’s latest novel, The German Wife, is a story of morality, one that steers the reader into contemplation about the choices people make when forced into impossible circumstances. Regardless, we only recommend products or services we use personally and believe will add value to our readers. Even expressing a view is punishable by death and Sofie and her husband have to tread carefully or else end up like the Jews themselves. Although her book is closely based on dry historical facts, Debbie Rix is a master story-teller of powerful fiction; I confess that I found some of the chapters real tear-jerkers - especially at the book's end.

Readers familiar with Rimmer’s work know to expect moving and thought-provoking, but this time she adds in controversial: this one is likely to prompt plenty of lively book-club discussion. Fans of Orphan Train , The Tattooist of Auschwitz and My Name is Eva will be utterly gripped by this beautiful, tragic World War Two novel. I also appreciated the complexities explored in the dynamics of the local community where both veterans of the war and these scientists were living side-by-side. Structure: This unputdownable story alternates between two perspectives (Sophie and Lizzie) and two timelines (1930 and 1950). Some of the ‘fiction’ parts -with the various drama — was a little overripe… emotional’ storytelling exaggeration —- but mostly the ‘sensationalized’ crafting reaches into our tender hearts.A family whose individual actions, decisions, choices and secrets made during the war will have long-lasting effects and irrevocably change lives forever. My one tiny critique is that I felt the ending wrapped up a little too quick and neat, but nothing that took away from my immense enjoyment of the overall story. Kelly Rimmer is the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and internationally best selling author of contemporary and historical fiction novels including The Secret Daughter, The Things We Cannot Say, and Truths I Never Told You. In 1930, in Berlin, Germany, Sofie von Meyer Rhodes and her husband Jurgen are happily married and very much in love but hardly making ends meet. How would you feel if you were Lizzie with a brother damaged by his war experience and his presence at the liberation of Auschwitz?
