Overall the build quality of this device is excellent. The design isn’t exactly original but it looks good on this device. The IPX80 is going to lose some style points for the overplayed design but otherwise it gets good scores. There’s no menu or settings screen on the IPX80. It’s a wattage mode only device and therefore it’s perfectly straightforward to use. New vapers won’t have an issue operating and using this device. Filling can be achieved on the fly thanks to the design of the lift tab and the pod makes a very secure connection with the battery section. The opening is also wide enough to accommodate most bottle nibs too. There’s no rattling when shook and it takes a fair degree of force to remove it once connected. Impressive stuff. Just bare in mind the pod will only fit one way.. The real innovation happens with the SMOK IPX 80 airflow control system. Unlike most pod mod airflow designs, which only have one airflow control, the IPX80 has airflow adjustment on both sides for maximum throat hit control. It can hold up to 5.5mL of e-juice within the pod and can provide plenty of satisfying vapor before requiring refills. Yes, there are only subtle airflow differences when vaping between fully open/closed dial settings but the flavour and cloud production is quite remarkable on any airflow arrangement. Unlike most pod mod airflow designs where you get one airflow control, the IPX80 has airflow adjustment on both sides for the ultimate throat-hit adjustment. Compared to the Smok RPM80 Pod Kit that I once owned, it’s basically an indestructible version. One of the features I would have added to the RPM80 is an adjustable airflow and a USB C type charging cable/port. Seeing as it provides both MTL and DTL vaping experiences, I felt that the device was too airy when switching over to MTL vaping. The RPM2 pod uses plug and play coils so it’s just a case of aligning the flat sides up and pushing them in – quite simple. How Does the Smok IPX80 Pod Kit Perform? Coils insert into the bottom of the pod by way of press fit. Two coils come included with the IPX80 kit: I actually discovered that even with airflow dials completely closed there was the possibility of a semi restrictive direct lung hit! It’s not even restricted to the point of becoming an airy MTL vape. I would recommend juice ratios of 70/30 – 80/20 with the RPM2 mesh coil and ratios no higher than 60/40 with the 0.6ohm DC MTL coil. Smok IPX80 Pod Kit – Battery Performance

The IPX 80 includes an RPM 2 pod which is fully compatible with the RPM 2 coils range. The IPX 80 pod kit comes equipped with an RPM 2 meshed 0.16ohm coil and a RPM2 DC 0.6ohm MTL coil. Operating between 1-80W, the range of the SMOK IPX80, makes it perfect for delivering MTL or DTL vapor from the RPM 2 Coil Series. Experience excellent flavour and cloud production with peace of mind knowing your device is robust whilst also looking the part. Again it’s been IP67 protected by means of a rubber cap. I didn’t find it the easiest to remove and actually caused me some frustration during multiple attempts to prise it open. I’m a nail biter so that obviously doesn’t help.

Delivery Options

I struggle to recommend the Smok IPX80 Pod Kit to anyone that’s looking for a true MTL vape. It just won’t provide that regardless of the included MTL coil. It may have been a totally different opinion had there only been a single adjustable dial. I would hazard a guess at there being around 70% airflow restriction, still more than I would associate with my favoured restrictive lung hit but less than needed for an adequate MTL – which the coil is designed for. I’m highly impressed by the consistent performance of the 0.16ohm mesh coil in the Smok IPX80 RPM2 pod. Every vape was a flavoursome winner! RPM2 0.6ohm DC Coil rated 12-25W Having said that, you’re not likely to fiddle about with it too much once the sweet spot has been found. I always prefer to charge devices in a vertical position. Otherwise I’m removing the pods for fear of potential leakage.

The pod is held in place with four magnets in the sealed top area and there are no worries about accidentally losing the pod, the ip67 rating should mean that this area is resistant to leaky coils which is a good thing as the RPM coils still do weep a bit especially if you leave them unattended overnight. The ip67 rating also carries over to the USB charge port on the bottom which is sealed with a large rubber bung. We’re going to be relying entirely on the effectiveness of the dual rotary dials with the Smok IPX80 pod kit. I think I’d better move on before compatibility chaos ensues and I develop the inevitable headache from hell! lol The window is translucent so viewing juice levels isn’t going to be a major problem but the RPM2 pod falls into the same trap as many others, namely being heavily recessed into the battery section.
